Location

Key West is a city and an island of the same name near the southernmost tip of the Florida Keys in Monroe County, Florida. Key West is known as the Southernmost City in the Continental United States.  It is also the southern terminus of U.S. 1, State Road A1A and the East Coast Greenway. Key West is the county seat of Monroe County and is a major seaport destination for many passenger cruise ships. The Key West International Airport provides airline service, hotels and guest houses.

Less than 90 miles from Cuba and less than 10 miles square in area, Key West is one of the hottest vacation destinations in the country. Key West has a population of approximately 28,000 year-round residents, and plays host to almost 1 million cruise ship visitors and countless others who make the trek by air and by auto

Key West's beaches lead visitors to clear blue waters that are perfect for swimming, jet skiing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Several luxury resorts offer first-class accommodations and activities for the whole family.

It is part of the laissez-faire that along with the subtropical climate and palm-shaded streets, it has attracted artists, musicians, writers and a thriving gay community. Self-dubbed sophisticates warn about how tacky-touristy Key West has become. But while the main drag, Duval Street, is overridden with chain stores, there's so much more to this town. It's practically impossible not to fall in love with the tropical nights.

Transportation

Key West must be the easiest place to find, just head South on Interstate 1 and keep going until you cannot go any further. Key West is the most Southern point of Florida and to get there you need to pass through many other fabulous keys all connected by Interstate 1. Locally it is best to use the trams and Conch Tour Train  tours to get around as most of the key attractions are close together. With access for Cruise liners at the shipping port, Key West has thousands of new visitors every day.

Key West International Airport is located right in the heart of the key and is about 180 miles south of Miami International Airport where most international flights are routed from.

The Key West airport services many of the other islands in the Bahamas and are operated by US Airways, Delta and American Eagle.

Schools

Many people ask me when moving to Florida, how good are the schools? My answer is always the same, how good do you want them to be? Using my search & link facilities in addition to the zip code of the area you are in, we can establish the best school for your children. It’s all about Location, Location Location. Just because you are thinking of buying a nice new home it doesn’t mean the schools are to the standard that you are used to.

Your children’s future is one of the most important considerations to take into account and the distance you are from a good school may make all the difference, Use these page links to research the schooling systems and check out past grades. A good first point of contact is the web site Florida Department of Education as they offer directories of schools and colleges searching by district or name. For Elementary, Middle & High schools information

With some great schools in the area the selection is vast to match any parental requirements. Here is just a small selection of the schools Monroe County School District, Florida Keys Community College, Montessori and the Elementary Charter School.
